Why Summer Is A Great Time for Acupuncture Treatments

It’s officially summertime and we couldn’t be happier to go out and make the most of this beautiful weather. Every day counts during this time of year. What you may not know is that summertime is also a great time to receive facial acupuncture treatments.  Here are some more details on how facial acupuncture treatments will make your summer feel even brighter!

What happens to your skin in the summer?

In the summer, your skin is exposed to a variety of different elements: UV rays from the sun, chemicals from improper sunscreen, chlorine from the pool, and allergic reactions from certain plants . All of these factors have the potential to wreak havoc on your skin.

How facial acupuncture improves your skin during the summer

Facial acupuncture is a full body treatment that helps to restore the appearance of any skin problem that can arise during the summer.

  • Facial acupuncture improves the look of your skin in the summer

If your skin is dry from a heat rash or overexposure to chlorine, facial acupuncture can help hydrate and replenish your skin. Facial acupuncture treatments can boost your blood circulation and improve muscle tone. If you want that summer glow, facial acupuncture can provide that for you in a natural way. You may not even need to use bronzer for your beauty routine!

Although facial acupuncture treatments start at the face, you will experience the benefits all over the body. Because of that, you may notice that your skin’s appearance has improved everywhere.

  • Facial acupuncture helps you feel great on the inside during the summer

Aside from the external benefits that facial acupuncture provides in the summer, there are a number of internal benefits that facial acupuncture can provide.  Facial acupuncture has the capacity to restore feelings of relaxation. If your allergies or allergy medications are making you feel sluggish and drowsy, facial acupuncture can help you to restore your energy or qi. You may also notice that you sleep patterns are disrupted from the heat and the extended daylight hours. The increased production of endorphins that come from facial acupuncture will help you to relax and have a better night’s sleep in the summer. In addition, facial acupuncture can prevent the buildup of toxins in the body. This can be especially helpful if there’s been changes to your diet in the summer. These changes, whether good or bad, can disrupt the system. When you meet with me for a treatment, I can offer some dietary solutions to help complement your sessions.

With our skin being the body’s largest organ, it’s very important to take extra care of it all year. While enjoying various activities in the summer, make sure to keep the quality of your skin in mind. Facial acupuncture will help you look and feel great this summer so that you can make the most of every day! Feel free to book a complimentary 15 minute consultation session with me to learn more about how I can help you!

Why Children Can Have Acupuncture Treatments

June 8, 2016
Comments Off on Why Children Can Have Acupuncture Treatments

Last month, I explained how Acupuncture can help asthma sufferers. Since asthma is a condition which is often experienced among children, I thought it would be helpful to explain how Acupuncture can be an appropriate form of treatment for kids who experience a wide range of conditions. Here on some more details on why children can have Acupuncture treatments.

Conditions which Acupuncture treats

Children who suffer from ADHD, asthma, allergies, or migraines can find relief from Acupuncture. Acupuncture can also provide pain relief for children who suffer from juvenile arthritis, Lyme disease, or juvenile fibromyalgia, dental pain, sinus pain, and back pain. The treatments can be considered as a safe alternative to medications.

Acupuncture can also boost your child’s immunity. If you’re sick of getting sick from your kids, then maybe it’s time to consider Acupuncture. Acupuncture can help to protect your child from common colds, flus, and other illnesses which children tend to experience.

Acupuncture treatments are not always about needles

Children can still have Acupuncture even if they’re afraid of needles.  The superfine needles used for Acupuncture treatments are not as painful as the needles used for injections and blood tests. In addition, I can offer alternative methods of treatment that do not involve needles. For example, Acupressure is a form of treatment that can help alleviate nausea that children may experience from cancer treatments.  In this case, Acupuncture serves as a complementary form of treatment.

Acupuncture teaches children healthy skills early on in life

Many people who seek Acupuncture in adulthood reap the benefits of Acupuncture later on in life. The benefit of providing children with Acupuncture treatments is that they learn essential knowledge and attitudes about their bodies early on in life. By receiving Acupuncture treatments, children can learn to build a solid foundation of understanding. First, early exposure to treatment introduces children to an alternative mode of healing. They can learn that Western medicine is not the only form of treatment. In the process of receiving Acupuncture treatments, children also gain a thorough understanding of how to connect with their bodies in a healthy and non-judgemental manner. The feelings of relaxation and anxiety relief that result from Acupuncture treatments help children to foster these positive connections with their bodies. Overall, the healthy skills can help children to take greater ownership of their health and well being. Gaining this set of knowledge and skills are essential for all children. In addition, these skills highlight the notion that Acupuncture provides a holistic set of benefits for children no matter what their health status is.

Hopefully this blog has shed light on the idea that Acupuncture treatments are not exclusive to adults. The time to start treatments is dependent upon a child’s age, comfort level and stage of development.  If you have children, and you are considering Acupuncture as a form of treatment, feel free to contact me to learn more about how I can help. Your first visit with me will include a complimentary 15-minute consultation session.

How Acupuncture Can Improve Quality of Life for Asthma Sufferers

May is National Allergy and Asthma Awareness Month. Allergies and asthma tend to be at their peak season around this time of year. It’s important to educate and inform your family, friends, and colleagues of the severity of these conditions. Many of you in Kingston who suffer from both asthma and allergies understand how bad asthma and allergies can be. Pollens and allergens seem to be highly aggressive in this part of Ontario. Unfortunately, your symptoms may worsen as the summer months progress.  The higher proportion of allergens in the air can be significantly disruptive for those who suffer from asthma.  Last month, I explained how acupuncture can alleviate allergies.  In this blog, I’ll give your more details on how acupuncture can provide relief for asthma sufferers.

What asthma means in Traditional Chinese Medicine

Although Western medicine proposes that asthma is an illness centrally focused within the lungs, Traditional Chinese Medicine classifies asthma as a disorder among many parts of the body. The lungs, kidneys, and stomach are all affected by asthma. When the stomach is not functioning correctly, there is an accumulation of phlegm that congests the lungs.  Traditional Chinese Medicine also indicates that asthma is caused by a blockage of qi or energy within the body. A disruption of qi in the stomach can interfere with the downward motion of the lungs, thereby creating breathing problems.  The kidneys aid the downward movement of the lungs and as a result they are also affected by asthma. Because asthma is a condition that develops in childhood, it is believed that children have also developed illnesses within the kidneys. If you have a child who has asthma, it’s a good idea to start treatments early. If you’re wondering whether acupuncture is a safe treatment method for children, feel free to read this article for more information.

Overall, Traditional Chinese Medicine investigates the root cause of asthma and helps to alleviate any deficiencies within the body. Acupuncture also allows you to take greater ownership and control of your overall health.

How acupuncture helps to alleviate asthma

Acupuncturists focus on the acupoints along the lungs, kidney, and stomach. The acupoints around the bladder are also treated as a way to improve the health of the lungs, kidneys, and stomach. As a result, the qi blockages are resolved. If you suffer from asthma, you will notice that acupuncture treatments will alleviate your symptoms of coughing, wheezing, pain and tightness in the chest, shortness of breath, and difficulty breathing.

As of right now, there is no cure for asthma. However, acupuncture can help to improve your quality of life and help you to breathe better. Acupuncture is not intended to replace inhalers for asthma. I would recommend that you speak with your doctor before seeking acupuncture treatment.  As a fully licensed and experienced acupuncturist, I would be glad to help you get the relief you need from your asthma. If you are eligible for treatments, feel free to contact me for a complimentary 15-minute consultation session.

Acupuncture Can Help Heal Your Running Injury

Comments Off on Acupuncture Can Help Heal Your Running Injury

Spring is finally here and for many people that means it’s time to get off the treadmill and start running outdoors. If you’re a frequent runner, you may be more likely to have an injury. Running can bring a lot of ware and tear on the lower limbs. Common injuries include: inflammation, swelling, acute strains and sprains, low back pain, tendonitis, bursitis, and plantar fasciitis. Here’s what acupuncture can do to help alleviate those injuries associated with running.

The type of acupuncture used for running injuries

Although the traditional form of acupuncture is effective in healing running injuries, electro-acupuncture is another commonly used approach.  With this approach, the same acupuncture needles are used for your treatment sessions. An electrode is attached to the needles in order to allow a gentle vibration and increase the stimulation of qi or energy. In addition, these gentle vibrations push fluid out of the injured area and encourage greater blood circulation and muscle relaxation. Electro-acupuncture sessions are typically shorter because a stronger stimulus is used for the treatment.

Acupuncture speeds up the healing process

Although your doctor may have advised you to take a break from running for a certain period of time, acupuncture can shorten that break with its amazing benefits and faster healing time. This is great news for those of you who are getting ready for a race or working to improve endurance training.

Acupuncture investigates the root causes of your injury

Your injury might have been caused by a multitude of factors: tension in the muscles, poor oxygen flow, poor bone health, and any other underlying condition. As your acupuncturist, I can conduct a differential diagnosis to help determine the root cause of your injury so that you can have a better understanding of it. Hopefully this greater understanding can provide you with the tools and techniques that are necessary to help you continue running.

Acupuncture is a natural form of treatment

In contrast to most pain medications or anti inflammatory medications, you will not experience any unwanted side effects with acupuncture treatments. Some anti inflammatory medications can produce side effects such as ulcers, internal bleeding, and kidney dysfunction. These side effects can affect your quality of life and possibly your ability to continue running. A positive side effect of acupuncture treatment is that you’ll have more energy to run and continue other activities you love!

Running can still be enjoyable as long as you’re careful and you seek the right treatment to heal any injuries you face. Acupuncture may not be for everyone who suffers from a running related injury. There may be larger problems that cannot be treated by acupuncture. Make sure you speak with your family doctor before seeking acupuncture treatment or any other energy replacement therapy. If you’re eligible for treatment and you’d like to learn more about how I can help heal your specific running injury, feel free to contact me for a complimentary 15-minute consultation session. I’d be happy to help you get back on your feet again!

Keep reading this blog to find out what to expect from a total body treatment such as cosmetic acupuncture.

Differential diagnosis

According to the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the skin can tell us a lot about our health and well being. With the skin being the body’s largest organ, it’s important to take good care of it and be aware of its changes. Your initial session with me will involve an assessment your skin’s current condition and any potential problems affecting it. Once we come up with a treatment plan that’s right for you, you should expect to have at least 10 treatment sessions with me. Each session will focus on a specific part of your face that is affecting your health and well being. The face serves as the starting point at which you’ll receive the benefits of cosmetic acupuncture.

Cosmetic acupuncture improves immune functioning

By focusing on the correct meridians in the body, cosmetic acupuncture can stimulate the body’s natural processes of cell reproduction and growth.

Cosmetic acupuncture enhances the aging process

Many people receive cosmetic acupuncture treatments to reduce the look of wrinkles and fine lines. While these features are superficial signs of aging, there are other parts of the aging process that cosmetic acupuncturists can treat.  When it comes to aging, every one of us has a different experience. Because of that, we should expect to have a different treatment regimen. Cosmetic acupuncture will help treat conditions and problems associated with your unique aging experience. Cosmetic acupuncture can help to improve hormonal balance and delay the onset of hair loss and greying.

Cosmetic acupuncture is a holistic approach to beauty

Present day society overloads us with several ideals for health and beauty. But cosmetic acupuncture teaches us that good health can be the way to look and feel beautiful. When you meet with me for a treatment session, I will provide you with alternative approaches to help prolong the efficacy of your cosmetic acupuncture treatment sessions. Such approaches include dietary and lifestyle recommendations. There are certain Chinese herbs which increase longevity and improve beauty. I’ll make specific recommendations on the types of herbs you can take to reap the greatest benefits.

Cosmetic acupuncture helps improve self perception

The increased stimulation of endorphins from cosmetic acupuncture sessions helps to improve your self perception. It’s often the case when you look and feel attractive, you are confident in your ability to make decisions for yourself and those around you. When we have that capability to do that, we can do a world of good.

If you want to have a treatment that helps you look and feel great all over, then cosmetic acupuncture might be right for you. Contact me for a complimentary 15 minute consultation to learn more!
