It takes a series of treatment sessions for acupuncture to truly be effective. Every body is different with its own unique set of needs. As a result, there is no set formula for determining the number of acupuncture sessions for a specific need. To learn more about why you should plan to have more than one acupuncture treatment, keep reading this blog.
Acupuncture treatments can have an cumulative effect
It’s a rare occurrence when acupuncture is effective in the first session, especially for those who are trying acupuncture for the first time. It takes some time to get used to the acupuncture needles. Even if you’re afraid of needles, you can still have acupuncture treatments. Acupuncture is known to have a cumulative effect in terms of its efficacy. You will start to notice results as you build the layers of your treatment regimen.
Acupuncture covers a wide spectrum of health needs
Everyone has different health and wellness goals to achieve when it comes to acupuncture treatments. As a result, there are different types of acupuncture treatments to suit those unique needs. Each type requires its own treatment guideline in accordance with treatment goals. Also, consistently following through with your specific dietary and lifestyle recommendations to complement your treatment can be highly beneficial in boosting the efficacy of your treatments. When you meet with me for an initial consultation session, we will determine what type of treatment you will need based on your treatment goals and needs.
How many sessions would you typically require?
As mentioned earlier, you may start to see results from your first treatment. But if not, then it can take up 4 treatment sessions to start noticing a difference. It all depends on the nature of your treatment goals or ailment. For example, with my cosmetic acupuncture treatments, it can take up to 10 sessions for you to see and feel the results you desire. If you’re seeing me to feel relief from the side effects of cancer treatments, then it all depends on how long you’re having cancer treatments and how long the treatments are affecting you.
How will you know if treatments are working?
The general signs that your treatment is working are: increased energy and motivation, improved sleep, improved digestive health, and reduced stress. Once you start to notice the difference in those areas of your life, it is the hope that the treatments will target your specific conditions in the process.
Similar to most treatment regimens, acupuncture is no exception. It takes time and consistency for the treatments to start working the way they’re intended. It’s best to give acupuncture a chance before you decide if it’s right for you. Whether I suggest you need more treatments or you decide that for yourself, the choice to continue your treatments is always yours.
